Steven Wayne Anderson, 72, of Malakoff, Texas, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, after a brief illness, with his beloved wife Mohrea and his sons Steve, Johnny, and David at his side. He was born on April 7, 1949, in Alexander, MN, to Willard N. and Mary Jane Anderson.
He grew up in nature and loved the outdoors. As a very young man, he learned to work hard and take on whatever job was available to support himself. He was a Navy veteran. His career path has been exciting and diverse; he has been a trapper, biker, and truck driver, even transporting highly sensitive materials such as explosives. Steve moved to Texas in the 80s, met the love of his life, and put down roots. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and the best Grandpa, AKA Poppa Bear, that there has ever been. Steve was genuinely dedicated to his family.
Even though he was a mountain of a man, a gentler soul you won’t meet. He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give his shirt for a friend. He was a good father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, a loving grandfather and “great-grand” father. He was a man who never cared much about himself and who, even in his final days, was reluctant to have anyone fuss over him. He is loved and will be missed by many!
Steve is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mohrea Fay Anderson; blessing child by birth Steve Taylor Anderson; children by blessing Johnny Ray Pitman and wife Lauri, David Lynn Pitman, Jr., Donna Smith and husband Clovis, Justin Rautio, and Tracine Nedoroscik; grandchildren McKenzie Anderson, Molly Anderson, Amanda Pitman, Jonathan Pitman, Garrett Pitman, Kenneth Andrew Swinton, Carley Pitman, and Johnny “Bear” Pitman; great-grandchildren Nora and Christopher Jackson; sisters Julie Bernard and husband Emeric and Barb VanMeveren; beloved nephews TJ Bernard, Cory Anderson, Darren VanMerveren, and Eric Christianson; and many beloved great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Debbie Christianson.
