Roy Douglas Haston, 80, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022. He was born on November 3, 1941, in McMinnville, TN, to parents Denny Ray Haston and Clara Norrod Haston.
Doug grew up in Tennessee with his parents, brother, and sister working the family farm. In high school, he participated in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and played baseball, where he excelled in both. After graduating high school, Doug moved to Dallas, TX, to seek other opportunities. Soon afterward, his family auctioned off the farm and relocated to Texas as well.
For the next 40 years, Doug pursued many opportunities, finally landing on the career in long-haul trucking, which would span three decades and take him millions of miles across America. Doug worked as a short and long-haul truck driver for several companies, including Neuhoff Brothers Meat Packing, Santa Fe Railroad, and Brown Express. Following a long, successful career, he retired at the early age of 58 from the Local Teamsters Union 745. He and his wife, Carol, moved to Eustace, TX, and bought a small farm which they enjoyed working for years. The couple spent retirement pursuing many small business ventures, raising cattle, growing vegetables in their huge garden, back-hoe work, cutting and baling hay, and their favorite hobby, helping their neighbors in their rural community. In Doug's spare time, he loved to fish. He and his friends would often enter bass fishing tournaments.
Doug and Carol enjoyed many things together, especially spending time with their family, which included their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The couple was also very fortunate to have many friends in the Eustace area. They shared a large, blended family and loved them all.
Doug is survived by his children Kim Haston and her partner, Vicki Burris of Northlake, TX, Kelly Isbell and husband Jon of Fort Worth, Lisa Klein and husband Chris of San Antonio, Chris Hall and wife Karin of Corsicana; grandchildren Joseph Isbell, Ethan Isbell, Corbin Klein, Blaine Klein, Jordan Klein, Brandon Hall, Breana Hall, Jacob Wallen, and Kaylee Hall; sister Ann Gipson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Denny and Clara Haston, his wife of 30 years Carolyn Haston, Kay Haston, the mother of his daughters Kim and Kelly, and his brother Morris Haston.
Jon Isbell will officiate for the Haston family.
Pallbearers are Jon Gipson, Joseph Isbell, Ethan Isbell, Kevin Haston, Brandon Hall, Corbin Klein, Chris Hall, and Chris Klein.
