Richard Duerr McCreary, 73, passed away on August 26, 2013 in Mabank, TX.
A service in his honor will be held at Moorhead-Epps Funeral Home in Gun Barrel City, TX (750 E Main St) on August 31, 2013 at 3 PM.
Dick was born in St. Louis, MO to James and Harriet McCreary on July 6, 1940. He grew up in Berkeley, CA and later moved to Texas to earn his PhD in Psychology. He eventually made Dallas, TX his home where he raised his family with his wife Barbara McCreary and built a successful private practice. He retired to Cedar Creek Lake and enjoyed nine fantastic years of retirement.
Dick was a life long golfer who grew up playing with his father, brother and uncle. He was thrilled to pass the tradition down to his son. Never one to sit long, he was involved in the Pinnacle Men's Golf Association, Carolyn Estates board, competitive bridge, driving Meals on Wheels, renovating his home, making dollhouses, boomerangs and walking sticks for grandkids and writing two memoirs.
Dick, known to his grandchildren as Grrdaddy, is survived by his wife Barbara and his children: daughter Jennifer and husband Jody Ford and their two children, son Eric Martin and his three children, son Brian and wife Tamara McCreary and their two children, daughter Brooke and her husband Shane Davis and their five children.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Democratic National Committee (http://www.democrats.org) or Meals on Wheels (http://www.mowaa.org).
Dick wanted to let everyone know he was grateful for their love and friendship.
