Mikel Roy Castillo

December 30, 1960 — January 20, 2021

Mikel “Mike” Roy Castillo, 60, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in a hospital in Tyler, TX.  He was born on December 30, 1960, in Forney, Texas.  He was the son of Joe and Elizabeth Sue Castillo.

Mike grew up in Forney, TX, with his brother and sister, Matthew and Emily.  In 1978, Mike married Louise at the age of 17 and had their first child, Joe, in 1979, and in 1981 their daughter Michelle was born.  In the summer of 1987, Mike, Louise, Joe, and Michelle moved to Eustace, TX, where they enjoyed life and had their third child, Heather.  Their family was complete.  Mike had been a mechanic in the small town of Eustace for many years.  Eventually, Mike moved on to bigger and better things; he decided to work on extra-heavy equipment, big machinery and became a Rigger.  Becoming a rigger allowed Mike to travel and see new places and landmarks; he really enjoyed traveling and seeing the world.  Mike’s hobbies were plentiful.  He loved to fish and hunt; he loved to be outdoors with his family and friends.  He also enjoyed fishing on the coast, kayaking, and tinkering with any and all things that needed fixing.  Mike could be hard-headed and stubborn at times but had a very loving and giving heart and soul.  He always cared about others and always helping others before he would help himself.  When people would attempt to repay him, he would say, “If I can’t help my friends, what good am I?”  Mike would give the last dollar in his pocket and the shirt off his back to anyone in need, and he was always just a phone call away.  Mike, your presence is sorely missed; your memories we will forever treasure; we will love you forevermore and forget you never.

Mike is survived by his children Joe Castillo and wife Desiree, Michelle Mayne and husband William, Heather Baker and husband Jeremy; grandchildren Tristian, Sierra, Gage, Chasey, Nova, Fynn, Christopher, Colten, Allison, Kaylee, Mason; brother Matthew Castillo and wife Tanya; several nieces and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Emily Lawrence.

John Wesley Nutt will officiate for the Castillo family.
