Meldon Ray Mitchell, 92, passed away on May 1, 2022. He was born on July 5, 1929, in Hunt County, Texas, in the family home, to parents Odes Meldon Mitchell and Dorothy Ada Estelle Aycock Mitchell.
Ray graduated from McKinney Boyd High School in 1947 with a 4.0 grade average. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served two years. After he was discharged, he went to work at Fritz W. Glitch, which later was known as Glitch Field Services. He started as a Welder and worked his way up to Field Supervisor. His work took him all over the world. Everyone in the industry knew him, and he was well respected by all his co-workers and friends. During that time, he also was Chief Deputy Constable of Precinct 9 in Irving, Texas. After he married Oleta, they were founding members of Alpha Baptist Church in Seven Points, Texas, where Ray served as a Head Deacon. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ray is survived by his children Mike Mitchell, Kathy Mitchell Hearn and husband Steve, Wes Horton and wife Susanne, and Carolyn Bostian; grandchildren Aaron Horton and wife Laura, Micah Horton and wife Colson, and Stephan Shimp; and great-grandchildren Joseph Snyder, Emma Horton, Hannah Horton, and Will Horton.
He is preceded in death by his parents Odes and Dorothy Mitchell; brothers Billy Merle Mitchell, Donald Glen Mitchell; wives Evelyn Mitchell, Bonnie Mitchell, and Oleta Mitchell.
Dr. Matt Faircloth, Pastor, Alpha Baptist Church in Seven Points, Texas, will officiate for the Mitchell family.
Pallbearers are Aaron Horton, Micah Horton, Stephan Shimp, and Joseph Snyder.
