Mary Evelyn Phillips

January 12, 1952 — October 17, 2019

Mary Evelyn Phillips, 67, passed away on October 17, 2019.  She was born on January 12, 1952, in Kaufman, Texas, to the home of Johnny L. and Nellie Mae Boyde.

She has been at the helm of A1 Insurance Company for the last 21 years.  Before working in the insurance business, Mary worked at the only bank in Eustace, Texas, for 17 years.

She lived life to the fullest and had an extreme love for others.  More than anything though, she loved and adored her granddaughter Taylor who was the “apple of her eye.”  Mary was known as “Taylor Gracie’s Grammy.”  She made it a point to try to go to every soccer game and dance class she possibly could.  She would close the office 45 minutes early to drive to Tyler to watch Taylor dance.

She LOVED a clean house.  She allowed no shoes in her house; you left your shoes at the back door.  Mary was “Mrs. Claus.”  Christmas was a special time of the year and she decorated accordingly.

Mary was very proud of  her son Toby and his decision to enter the seminary.  Her favorite book to read in the Bible was The First Epistle to the Corinthians, written by Paul.

Mary is survived by her husband of 48 years who she only knew two weeks before marrying; son Toby Phillips and wife Laura; granddaughter Taylor Phillips; and sisters Linda Squire and Louise Byers.

She is preceded in death by brothers Jimmy Glen Boyde and Johnny Boyde; and sisters Helen Gamble and Joyce Salazar.

Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her and by everyone whose life she touched.
