Lilly Mae Burris

Lillie Mae Pence-Burris, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Mabank, Texas, on August 14, 2021.  She was born on July 28, 1937, in Johnstown, Wisconsin, to Walter and Bertha Pence.  She was one of 13 children.

She married Leon Burris on August 4, 1956.  They had five children together, Juanita, Wendy, Brenda, Leon, Jr., and Johnny.  They moved to Texas with their children in 1965.  Mae worked for 50 years as a manager for M.E. Moses and Dollar General, as well as volunteering at the V.A. Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Her family paid this tribute to her; “She was a very loving mother and grandmother.  She was the glue that held this family together and will be sorely missed.”

Mae is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Sr., son Leon Jr. and granddaughter Amy.

Mae is survived by four children, Juanita, Wendy, Brenda, and Johnny; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Samuel, Leonard, and Chuck; and sister Delores.
