Johnny Carl Murrell

Johnny Carl Murrell, 63, died at his residence on November 8, 2021.  He was born on November 18, 1957, in Pampa, Texas, the son of Johnny Hues Murrell and Clara Imogene Herd.

He graduated from Pampa High School in 1976.  After graduation, he earned his EMT and Paramedic and worked in Pampa, Texas, Amarillo, Texas, and Clearwater, Florida.  While on the ambulance, he was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes that he played on his co-workers.  He later earned his Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy.  As a traveling RT, he worked at many places across the US, eventually settling back in North Texas, where he met the love of his life, Martha Rockholdt.  They married on September 5, 1999.  He continued his work as a traveling RT while enjoying his favorite pastime as a photographer.  He built a small photography business called The Digital Eye, where he loved to take photographs at Renaissance Festivals.  He was an avid gun collector and spent time coaching throughout the years.  Most recently, he was a coach for the 4H Shotgun Sports Club in Henderson County, Texas.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Martha Rockholt Murrell.

Survivors include sisters Judy Hammer of Decatur and Nancy Shufelberger of Gun Barrel City; sons Johnny Lee Murrell of Fort Worth and Justin Hues Murrell of Pampa; stepdaughters Amber Smart of Quitman, Crystal Whorton of Hutto, and Amanda Blount of Tyler; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Payne Springs Community Center in Payne Springs, Texas.  Those who wish to remember Johnny in a special way can make donations in his memory to the 4H Shotgun Sports Club by contacting Henderson County 4H, 100 Tyler Street, Ste. 300, Athens, Texas  75751, 903-675-6130.
