John Smith

John died peacefully in his home in the early morning of November 23, 2015 in Gun Barrel City, TX after a brief illness. Born in McKinney, TX on May 11, 1961 to Clifton Truitt Smith and Nora Kate (Testerman) Smith, he was the youngest of four children. John grew up in Wylie, TX, where he graduated from high school in 1979. He attended East Texas State University (now A&M at Commerce). He graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor's degree. During his 30 yr. career with Brookshire Grocery Co., he held many positions from fish cove clerk all the way to market manager. He was recognized many times for his outstanding performance as a market manager. From a young age, John always enjoyed the outdoors with his father. Many of the activities he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, trapping (at a younger age), looking for Indian artifacts, and gardening. He shared the fruits of his labors with his friends and family. John also had a keen interest in treasure hunting lore and history. His dogs were always a big part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Suzann (Pichette) Smith, daughter Shelby Smith of San Antonio, TX, and son Tucker Smith of Gun Barrel City, TX, brother Kenny Smith, and sisters Reba Raney and Freta Villanueva. He is preceded in death by his father Clifton Truitt Smith and mother Nora Kate (Testerman) Smith. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at the Oak Harbor Community Center on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm. 114 Southlake Dr. Gun Barrel City, TX 75156. Flowers are not necessary. Donations may be made to MD Anderson, the family, or any other memorial of your choice.
The celebration of life memorial ceremony for John k. Smith will be Saturday November 28 at 1pm. Oak Harbor Community Center 114 South Lake Drive, Gun Barrel City Texas, 75751. Food and drinks appreciated. Flowers not necessary, donations to MD Anderson, family, or other memorial of your choice will be preferred.
