Honoring US Army Veteran and professional firefighter, Jimmy Dale Smith, 80, who passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022. He was born on February 4, 1942, in Vernon, Texas, to parents Lester G. Smith and Lois Marie Kindle Smith.
Jimmy retired as Deputy Chief from a long career as a firefighter and paramedic at Mesquite, Texas. He was respected and admired by those who worked under him, and many remained friends. He moved to the Cedar Creek area and promptly went back to work for the City of Kemp, then Seven Points, as Fire Marshall, Dog Catcher, and wore several other hats.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Virginia I. Stevens; blended family, sons Thomas G. Smith and Payton R. Rezaie; daughters Lisa M. Rambo and husband Brent, Yvette L. Cano, Angela K. Wallace and husband Charlie, and Leslie L. Scott; sisters Billie Jo Russell and husband Dennis, Elaine M. Houston and husband Bill; brothers Larry D. Smith and John C. Smith; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother Lois M. Kindle; father Lester G. Smith; sisters Lois O. Smith, Janice F. Hill, and Wanda M. Houston.
There will be a “Come and Go” reception on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. for family and friends at Moorhead Funeral Home, 750 East Main Street, Gun Barrel City, Texas.
