Harlan Ray Maples, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Mabank, TX on February 14, 2023. He was born on May 14, 1933, in Caddo Mills, TX to parents John and Ellie (Williams) Maples.
Harlan was a God-fearing, brutally honest man who cherished and loved his family deeply. He was a hard-working man, always busy doing something with very little idle time. Most of the time, Dad was more than likely doing something to help someone else, whether it be family, friend, a neighbor, or even a stranger, he would help and go on to become good friends with.
He loved coaching baseball for many years and loved to fish with his family and friends. He especially loved his garden, and grew a beautiful garden every year with the most beautiful tomatoes that he would be so proud of. Dad was happiest giving away most of what God had helped him grow. He loved the family at Beacon Church of Christ and couldn't wait to fill the biggest box he could find with tomatoes and take to worship services each week. The love Dad showed our family and friends will be terribly missed.
Harlan is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty Nell Maples; his parents, John and Ellie Maples; and 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Harlan is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tom and Judy Coggeshall of Mesquite, TX; grandson, Thomas Coggeshall, Jr. of Payne Springs, TX; great-granddaughter, Cloe Berlin Coggeshall of Mabank, TX; and son, Steve Maples of Payne Springs, TX.
Thank you to Enhabit Home Health and Hospice with a very special thanks for all the love and care given by social worker Shana Christian, nurses Nicole Hall and Kay Williams, and wonderful aide, Andrea Bhopal.
