Gwen Jayroe Bohannon, 89, passed away on February 24, 2024, in Mabank, Texas. She was born on August 14, 1934, in Wylie, Texas, to parents James Hayden and Opal (Davis) Jayroe.
Gwen led a fulfilling life working as a secretary for CPS, where her dedication and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Outside of her professional life, Gwen was a woman of many passions and interests. She enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, but she had a special love for baseball, with a particular fondness for the Texas Rangers. As an adult, she actively played softball, showcasing her skills at 3rd base with grace and determination.
Gwen also found joy in gaming, spending countless hours immersed in the virtual worlds on her computer. Gwen really enjoyed watching game shows, with Family Feud and the charming host Steve Harvey holding a special place in her heart. Her infectious laughter and competitive spirit made these moments even more memorable. Gwen was known to eat candy non-stop, in fact her nickname at the nursing home was, "The Kit Kat Queen."
In addition to her diverse range of interests, Gwen was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Eustace, where her faith provided her with strength and guidance throughout the years. Gwen will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, James and Opal Jayroe; and her husband, James Thomas Bohannon.
Gwen is survived by her son, Nick Bohannon of Mabank, TX; son, Ken Bohannon and wife Phyllis of Mabank, TX; son, Bart Bohannon and wife Jamie of Eustace, TX; daughter, Carla Weems and husband Ray of Eustace, TX; grandson, Craig Bohannon and wife Angie of North Zulch, TX; grandson, Bryan Bohannon and wife Angela of Kemp, TX; grandson, Dustin Weems and wife Amanda of Eustace, TX; grandson, Aaron Bohannon and wife Sandy of Eustace, TX; granddaughter, Lindsay Spivey and husband Kevin of Eustace, TX; granddaughter, Staci Owen and husband Rand of Forney, TX; grandson, Heath Bohannon of Eustace, TX; grandson, Bo Bohannon of Payne Springs, TX; great-grandkids: Preslee, Keyton, Abby, Ty, Matthew, Keylee, Hannah, Remington, Maci, Tristen, Wyatt, Hayden, Cheyenne, Seamus, Gasper, Hayden, Mason, and numerous other friends and loved ones.
The family would like to extend an invitation for a reception following the service.
