Elton Ray Snow

October 18, 1934 — August 31, 2022

Elton Ray Snow, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, August 31, 2022.  He was born on October 18, 1934, in Ackerely, Texas, to parents Rogger Lee Snow and Novice Opal Roberts Snow.

As a child, Ray grew up learning the value of hard work and labor as a cotton picker to help his family make ends meet.  Ray joined the United States Air Force at the age of 16, where he served his country as an Aircraft Mechanic.

In January 1952, he met Margaret Jo MaGouirk at Sammy’s Bar and Grill in downtown Dallas, Texas, and the two were married on February 2, 1952.  Ray was a “jack of all trades.”  He was a ranch hand, broke horses, a milkman, a door-to-door salesman, owned a gas station, a restaurant owner, and a truck driver, to name a few.  Many will remember him and his days in the 70s at Pepe Taco, one of the first fast food Mexican restaurants in Pleasant Grove, Texas, where he and his family worked and served the community.  Ray was a devoted husband for 70 years and a loving father to six children, “Papa” or “Daddy Ray” to 19 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.  He loved to fish, hunt, work outdoors, watch the Dallas Cowboys, pan for gold, and play the lottery.  Always a dreamer, Ray wanted to hit a big jackpot someday so he could take care of his family.  Ray never met a stranger.  He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh.  He loved to tell stories about his life and what it was like growing up.  He was always willing to help anyone that was in need, and he so loved his animals.  Ray was a light to everyone he met and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Until we meet again, may the love you showed us forever be in our hearts.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Rogger and Novice Snow; brothers T.L. Snow, Bob Snow, and Jesse Snow; and sister Betty Hobbs.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Jo” MaGouirk Snow; children Tina Snow, Sherral Hartman, Daniel Snow and wife Ranee, Cynthia Bell and husband Carl, Rodney Snow and wife Ranee, Kathleen Osbourn and husband Corey; 19 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren; brothers Doyle Snow and Richard Snow; sister-in-laws Peggy Snow and Patricia MaGouirk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
