Douglas Leroy Harris, 69, passed away on April 4, 2022. He was born on June 23, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, to parents Elmer Woods Harris and Margie Lee Atchley Harris.
In 1957, Doug’s family moved to Marble Falls, Texas, where he attended school all the way through high school before moving to Roswell, New Mexico. At an early age, Doug fell in love with cars and loved cruising in his hot rods. There was always a project (or two, or three) in the garage. In the 1980s, Doug became a father to two children, Dawn and Randall. Never missing a soccer game, recital, or birthday party, he was always there and always [very] early. He absolutely loved being a dad and was so proud of his kids. Doug’s career consisted of years as a mechanic, business owner, fabricator, and printing operator. He loved fixing things and took great pride in his work. Doug was known for his gentle and quiet spirit. If there was ever a need, Doug was the first to say “yes” and lend a helping hand to his friends and family. He loved the mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico, where he lived for several years. He conquered triple bypass surgery in the early 2000s, which brought him back to Texas. Over the years, Doug became a grandfather and took that role seriously. He attended church at Life Fellowship in Athens, Texas. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend; and will be missed by so many.
Doug is survived by his father Elmer Woods Harris; daughter Dawn Burkett and husband Brad, and son Randall Harris; grandchildren Harper Burkett, Griffin Burkett, Micah Harris, and Peyton Harris; brother Jerry Harris and wife Kim; sisters Phyllis Pratt and husband Joe, Debbie Mercer and husband Ronnie, Kathy Patteson and husband Russell, and Shelly Horn and husband Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother Margie Lee Harris.
