Donna Marie Cowan Van Buren, 89, passed away on January 25, 2023, at her home in Tool, TX. Donna was born on January 25, 1934, in Tulsa, OK, to parents Thomas and Leora (Gholston) Cowan.
Donna graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1952. Afterwards, she attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She did her residency in Galveston, Texas.
She married Harvey Van Buren in 1956 and became a homemaker while nursing part-time. Donna was involved with her son’s activities, including being a Cub Scout Pack Leader. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was always involved with mission work through the church. She traveled with her husband and other church missionaries to many countries including Portugal, France, Africa, and Moldova, where she came back and shared with her church pictures and testimonies of her mission trips. Donna loved sharing the gospel of Jesus. Donna was devoted to her family and friends, and had a very loving, generous, and giving heart. She was gifted in many ways, and knitted, crocheted, and made quilts to show and share her love with others.
Donna is preceded in death by her son Brian Van Buren, her parents, Thomas and Leora Cowan; husband, Harvey Eugene Van Buren; sister, Helen Russell; and brother-in-law Charles Russell.
Donna is survived by her son, Gregory Van Buren, and wife Brenda of Kaufman, TX; grandson, Bryce Van Buren, and wife Melinda of Park City, KS; grandson, Brett Van Buren, of Corsicana, TX; granddaughter, Alyssa Van Buren Kline, and husband Jonathan of Dallas, TX; and great-granddaughter, Colette Van Buren, of Park City, KS. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
