Don Roe, age 89, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on July 16, 1935, in Dallas, Texas to parents Theodore and Sarah (Wells) Roe.
For 30 years, Don drove a bus for the Mabank Independent School District, earning a reputation as a responsible and caring driver. He took great pride in his work, managing to complete his driving career without a single accident. Although he spent four years working with Greyhound Bus Lines, it was at Mabank ISD where he truly made a lasting impact on the lives of countless children.
Don's service extended beyond his career. He dedicated 12.5 years in the Coast Guard as an engine room engineer and then spent 4.5 years in the Army Reserve as an underwater hardhat diver instructor, where he earned the title of master diver. His commitment to serving others defined much of who he was.
A man of faith, Don was an active member of Cedar Creek Church of God for over 40 years, contributing to the establishment and growth of the congregation. He also belonged to the Christian Motorcycle Ministry, where he found fellowship and shared his love for both motorcycles and his faith. Known for never meeting a stranger, he had a warm and welcoming personality and wasn't afraid to share his beliefs about Jesus with anyone he encountered. Don loved to travel, play pool, and indulge in good food. He often enjoyed adult coloring as a way to unwind and express his creativity. He was especially proud of raising his children to love the Lord, a testament to his strong values and nurturing nature.
Don was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roe and Dollie Holland; son, Don Roe, Jr.; brother, Danny Holland; and sister, Pat Mangono.
Don is survived by his wife, Diana Roe; daughter, Cathy Knape and husband Robert Knape; son, Leroy Wooldridge and wife Michelle; daughter, Bonnie Gant and husband Martin Gant; daughter, Sarah Townson and husband Cody Townson; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family, friends, and loved ones.
