Clarence Johnson

March 25, 1923 — December 18, 2014

Clarence D. Johnson, known to many as Shorty the Model T and Model A man was born on March 25, 1923 to James Heron and Barbara Winters Johnson in Winfield, TX, the oldest of six children. In 1950, he married Lydia Bertha Poldrack, the love of his life in Aransas Pass, TX. They had two daughters, Carolyn Sue, Deborah Ann, and one son Christopher Daniel. He is survived by his daughters, Sue Capps, and husband Bill of Mabank, Debbie Wallace and husband Tom of Alvin, TX. Two sisters, Opal Dean Hunter and husband Jack of Vidor, TX, and Gladys Ard Coleman of Kerens, TX. Grandchildren, Brooke Lynn Wallace of Alvin, Kevin Wayne Capps, and wife Peggy of Houston, TX. Darin Eugene Capps, and wife Marrietta of Conroe, TX. Great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joseph, and Emily Wallace, Krystal Dawn Stout, and husband Jimmy, John Rocky Tower, Kristopher Wayne Capps, JJ Capps, Donna May Capps, and Dianamarie Bea Capps. Great-great-grandchildren, Jennifer Dawn Stout, Eavy Cheyene and Hunter Payton Tower, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of Model T and Model A friends across the Unites States. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, two brothers, James H. Johnson, Jr., known as Buddy, Clovis Alton Johnson, and one sister Francis Ann Johnson McFatridge.

He served in the United States Army from 1942-1946 in England, France, Scotland, Austria and Germany constructing runways for the WWII Aircraft. His life long passion was his love for the Model T and Model A hobby. He knew them well and everything about them. He was a wealth of information and had an amazing memory. He was called a walking Model A manual. He purchased his first Model T in 1937 at the age of 14 for $7.50. After his military duty, he purchased his first, "strip down" Model A. He built and sold several Model T's from scrap parts. He was a founding member of the Cedar Creek Model A Ford Club and served as tour director with his special Model A friend, O. V. Cliver. He was a member of the Model T Ford Club of America and the Model A Ford Club of America. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and good Model T friend, Dale Hill, as well as many friends and of the Greater Houston Model A Restorer Club. The family would also like to thank the VNA/Hospice of Kaufman for such great care and dedicated employees who took excellent care of him.

He passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014 on what would have been his mothers 114th birthday.

Memorial service is, Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Moorhead Epps Funeral Home Chapel, at 11:00 A.M.
