Charles Smith McKee, age 89, passed away on January 30, 2025, in Kerens, Texas. He was born in Whitehall Community, on December 16, 1935, to parents Daniel O. and Leora (Smith) McKee.
Charles led a life that was marked by hard work and a gentle spirit, a man who found joy in the simple things.
Charles attended Whitehall Community School, he spent most of his young life laboring in cotton fields and ensuring that farmers' tractors were always ready for the day’s work. His easy-going nature made him well-liked among peers and family alike, as he approached each day with a calm demeanor and an unwavering dedication to his tasks.
Outside of work, Charles was a man of varied interests. He loved spending his time fishing and hunting, finding solace in the great outdoors. There was something about the tranquility of nature that resonated with him, and later in life he found further joy in gardening, nurturing plants as he had nurtured his own life’s path. His fondness for old cars also stood out; he could often be found tinkering away, bringing life back to an old engine, just as he embraced life with a hands-on spirit.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel O. and Leora McKee; sister, Faye; and grandson, Luke.
Charles is survived by his sons, Charles and wife Linda; Jim and wife Jill; grandchildren, Tracy and wife Amber; Whittney and husband Steven; Caleb McKee; eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous family, friends, and loved ones.
