Carl D. Houk, a 99-year old WWII veteran, passed away on December 22, 2020, at his home with his daughters Judy Ward, Jan Barksdale, and Lori Zurieta present. He was born to Jake and Bessie Malone Houk on July 23, 1921, in Rockwall, Texas.
After his service in the US Navy, he worked at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, Texas, for over 42 years, installing wires and instrumentation in all kinds of aircraft, from the B-29, B-36 to the F-15 and F-16. He was sent to various areas to assist and repair electrical problems in these aircraft when needed.
Carl had a special skill at building or modifying houses. As a youngster, he helped his father add rooms or build garages to their homes near downtown Dallas. As an adult, he designed and built four houses with garages. At his home in Everman, he built a two-story barn with a driveway through it to provide protection for his travel trailer. When he was 80, he added a washroom to a home he built on Cedar Creek Lake in 1984. When he was 84, he added a 12-foot porch to his home, with a vaulted roof.
He was married to Sammie Virginia Bunton for over 73 years. They had three daughters, Judy, Jan, and Lori; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. All family was very special to him. He was a member of Hilltop Worship Center for over 37 years. Carl will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
