Brenda Kay Nelson

July 8, 1954 — February 15, 2025

Tool, Texas

Brenda Kay Nelson, born on July 8, 1954, to Kenneth and Virginia Rickman in Ennis, Texas, passed away on February 15, 2025, after a brief illness in Tyler, Texas. Throughout her life, Brenda embraced the many titles bestowed upon her, including daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, friend, Nana, and, most importantly, Child of God.

Brenda grew up in Dallas and spent the majority of her life in Mesquite, Texas, where she graduated from Mesquite High School in the Class of 1972. Her career in accounting spanned various companies, including Wholesale Electric in Dallas, where she met her first husband, Robert. They married in 1974 and welcomed their beloved daughter, Shannon, who brought her immense joy.

A talented pianist, Brenda developed her love for music early on and could often be found playing the piano. She was known for her selfless service, striving to embody Christ's love in all her interactions. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she trusted in Christ from a young age and dedicated herself to living in a way that honored Him.

Brenda retired in 1999 from Dallas County Schools, embracing her most cherished role as Nana. She adored caring for her grandchildren, a role she held dear. In 2002, she married Ron Nelson, with whom she shared over 21 wonderful years.

Family was everything to Brenda. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she delighted in preparing festive bags filled with fruit, Rice Krispy treats, and sugar cookies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured family gatherings, filled with laughter, love, and celebration. Brenda's legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate with all who knew her.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Virginia, her first husband, Robert, and her brother, Keith.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Ronnie Nelson; daughters, Shannon (Jerry) and Tonja (Mike); and 11 grandchildren: Chase (Haley), Harley (Ethan), Jenna, Jaelee, Liam, Ruthie, Heather (Austin), Megan (Corey), Hunter (Bergandie), Joshua (Christian), and Haylee (Marques). She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren: Ryder, Annah, Rhett, Darcy, Avery, Boston, Karslynn, Murphy, Lilah, Baker, Ellie, and soon-to-arrive Asher.
