Betty I. Jaynes, 83, passed away on July 8, 2021. She was born on June 24, 1938, in Windom, Texas, to Johnny and Lucille Brown.
When Betty was little, her family lived in Honey Grove at the Telephone Company; her mom ran the switchboard. Betty and her brother, Joe, would sit on the back porch and wait for the servicemen to come home on the train. When the servicemen would walk by, Betty and Joe would offer them baked sweet potatoes. It was all they had, but it was the first meal the servicemen would have after the war. That started her life of service to the troops. Throughout her life, she continued to do anything she could to be of service or help to others. She loved going to Corsicana to pack care packages for the troops until she could no longer do it. In 1979, she went on to open and run her own business, a commercial cleaning company where she had several crews that she ran until about five years ago. She helped raise her six brothers and sister, then her own children, as well as her grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren. She was known by all as Nanny, and it fit her to a “T.” Betty will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty is survived by her daughter Rebecca Reed and husband Aubrey; grandchildren Jennifer Jaynes, Johnnie Cook, Cody Reed, Ashley Reed, and Christopher Russell; great-grandchildren Chauncey Henderson, Quentin Jaynes, Jamyron Walker, Samiyah Donnell, Aliyah Reed, and AubreeAnn Reed; sister Marion Florow.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Foster Don Jaynes; daughter Donna Cook; grandson Jeremy Russell; brothers Ricky Brown, Charles Brown, Joe Brown, Gary Brown, and J.D. Brown.
Bro. Ed Shauer, Pastor of First Church of the Nazarene in Gun Barrel City, Texas, will officiate for the Jaynes family.
Pallbearers are Johnnie Cook, Chris Russell, Jamyron Walker, Mike Stanley, Chauncey Henderson, and Quientin Jaynes.
