Alva Charles Nix, Jr.

March 18, 1941 — November 19, 2020

It is with heavy hearts of sadness and blessings we announce the passing of Alva Charles Nix, Jr., age 79, on November 19, 2020. We know it was an amazing day for our Dad and hero “Boompa” to go and be with the Lord and be reunited with the love of his life and Jesus Christ.  Charlie lived a strong, independent, and faith-filled life up until his final days with us.

Charles Nix was born on March 18, 1941, in Caledonia, Texas, to Marie and Alva Charles Nix, Sr.  He married the love of his life, Tommie Nell Nix, on June 20, 1959.  Their sweet love brought them three beautiful children.  Charlie and Tommie were best friends, soul mates, and life partners for 60 beautiful years.

Faith and family were at the forefront of Charlie’s life.  And while he had many successful careers in his lifetime, his favorite job title was Boompa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everything he did, he did it for his family. His favorite pastimes were bringing the family together for the best family get-togethers at the lake, boating, working in his yard, helping his neighbors, spending time with his church family, staying tuned in to Fox News, and most importantly, spending time in The Word and listening to praise and worship music. He loved to laugh and watch everyone have a good time.   Anyone who knew Charlie knew that he was about living the Good Life and providing a Good Life.  It was important for him to know that his family was happy and doing well.   He strongly believed in the unity of family and the sanctity of marriage.  Most importantly, he wanted to know that God was everyone’s compass in life, marriage, family, work, and community.  Charles was an active member of First Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Charles was a highly admired businessman and was an entrepreneur at his core.  He continuously instilled integrity, success, and a strong work ethic in his children as well as his employees.  Many would say his strong work ethic began as a child when he worked on the family farm.  His hard work and dedication paid for his parents’ first home.  Charlie’s many business ventures, always with Tommie by his side, included a trucking company, grocery and restaurant business, managing and owning paint and body business, and so many others.  In these ventures, everything he did was for the benefit of his family and the quality of life he provided for his loved ones.

Charlie is survived by his three children Chuck Nix and partner Kim Marckini of Longview, Monica and Russ Perry of Beckville, Lori and Aaron Mills of Glen Rose; seven grandchildren Aarica and Chris Mims, Whitney and Brian Reed, Jordan Nix, Dustin Briggs, Tanner Nix, Rylee and Brock Mills; five great-grandchildren Carson Nix, Callan Reed, Sumner Mims, Sanders Mims, and Ember Reed; four sisters Ima (Melvin) Wikoff, Betty (Raymond) Curbow, Janice Morris, Brenda (Jackie) Harris; brother Jimmy Nix; sister-in-law Margie Carter and Paul Jones; numerous nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
