Alice Virginia Allen

Alice Virginia Allen, 90, passed away on October 1, 2020, following a chronic illness.  She was born on July 10, 1930, in Dallas, Texas, to parents William Arnie Newton, Sr. and his wife Callie Ellen (Frank) Newton.

Virginia worked outside the home and retired after several years from Simmons Factory in Dallas, Texas, where she worked as a furniture upholsterer and seamstress.  During her working years, she also reared her children and took care of her husband, Tommy.  Virginia and her husband moved from the Dallas area to Gun Barrel City in 1968.  Her greatest joy in life was her immediate and extended family.  Virginia was a humble and giving person, always lending a “helping hand” to friends, family, and those less fortunate than herself.  She loved Jesus and lived according to His word.  “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”  She will be truly missed but not forgotten, as she touched the lives of those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.  Your work is done, Virginia, may you Rest in Peace…Thank you for the wisdom and life lessons you left behind…

Virginia is survived by her grandchildren Aubrey Dewbre and wife Aeron, Larry Allen, Jr., Devon Allen, Angela Douglas, Jacob Allen, Jordan Allen, Shelley Allen, and Tonya Simmel; great-grandchildren Adrian Hughes, Alesia Lindsey, Asher Dewbre, Noah Allen, Graci Douglas, Addison Douglas, Landry Allen; daughter-in-law Shirley Allen; niece Susan Boyette, and niece Mary Newton Maxwell; great-niece Marilyn Russell; special friend and longtime caregiver Jan Wynn; and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas Burns Allen; children Brenda Vinton, Roland Allen, Jimmy Allen, and Larry Allen, Sr.; seven brothers, and six sisters.
